Improve In-Game Event Management

Postby Richard » Sun Apr 16, 2017 5:21 pm

As expected, the 0% break chance event has ended and the flood of "Why has my gear broken?" and "I didn't know the event was over, the icon is still there for me!" has appeared in chat.

Improvements to the in-game event notification need to be improved so that this doesn't continue to happen. As suggested before, a simple countdown as to how much time is remaining would remedy this pretty much entirely. It could be taken a step further by alerting players game-wide when the event has ended, seeing as the icon doesn't disappear until reloading the game.

The confusion seems to always arise from the fact that the timestamp in-game doesn't describe exactly when the event ends. Most players do not know that the game runs of UTC time so the event ends once 00:00 in that timezone has come.

Specifically to this event (and as a general FAQ), it should be clearly stated that Quest power numbers, skill effects, event effects, (and any other misc effects) and results, are all locked in at the time of quest launch. This is always the case regardless of an event taking place. The countdown on quest parties is only there to let you know how long until you can collect your results (not when the quest checks to see what effects are present, then give you results).

Many people do not know this. This is why people launch parties before the event starts, see the event trigger, and wonder why the effect of the event doesn't apply to parties already launched.

I feel like a simple "If first quest since end of unbreakable -> display warning popup" would solve almost all problems with this.

Since Cloudcade is very fond of popups another reason to add one should make them happy. (Just please don't display it for every quest we send.)

Another common answer to add: "Yes your arena gear can break during an Unbreakable event, and no it doesn't break permanently."
